A Progressive EraDuring this time was the first emergence of the more modern feminist. Sick of the inequality faced day in and day out, the early-mid 1800s saw the start of a revolution to women being seen on the same level as men. Women were still mostly in the home, but began making headway for their ability to leave and create a life outside of the nuclear household.

The first recognized feminist group was a Christian based congregation that advocated for women's rights and the abolition of slavery. These groups, one that was first headed by Lucretia Mott, placed blame for females subjugated roles in society. They taught women to use their skills to advocate for their rights, like utilizing the education that they spread to the children as schoolteachers. Women defended their proposals for eqaul rights in society by utilizing the constitution as reference, stating it was legal for them to have certain rights, like voting. After the Seneca Falls Convention headed by activist Elizabeth Stanton, the feminist movement gained the most momentum.
